Group Care

It is the intention of the Day Care program to provide an informal atmosphere and a child-oriented, developmentally appropriate curriculum where children learn through play and the exploration of their environment. Children have the opportunity to become independent and successful in this educational environment, begin to successfully solve problems, and learn to express their ideas and feelings. The teachers will observe and assess the children’s play on a regular basis. This is an essential tool in planning curriculum, arranging the classroom environment, selecting the activities to be offered, and providing the appropriate equipment.

Philosophy

Our program supports each child in reaching their potential in all areas. Our program is designed to enhance all aspects of a child as a whole including health, cognitive, physical, emotional and social development.

Our program is based on cognitive development. We plan and organize our programming to include active learning, the direct and immediate experiences of people, objects and events, which provide the necessary conditions to enhance cognitive stimulation and learning for young children. We encourage self direction, a sense of responsibility and pride in our children through key planned and organized activities. Our Registered Early Childhood Educators strive to maintain a level of excellence in Early Childhood Education and individualized care to each child within our program.

Core Values

  • Children play and learn in a safe, nurturing environment, guided by a team of dedicated Registered Early Childhood Educators.
  • Communication between parents and teachers is essential to ensure the on-going success of a child’s placement.
  • We consider parents the primary caregivers of the child, and we support that relationship.
  • Through on-going training, teachers are able to upgrade their skills and to deliver quality early childhood education programs and activities.
  • By offering a seamless network of services, and by working in partnership with local community resources, the Agency is able to respond to the needs of the children, parents and the community.

Program Objectives

  • Assist children in learning to live comfortably in a social environment and in the family.
  • Develop a respect for individual and cultural differences through discussion, literature, and role modelling.
  • Provide opportunities for the children to interact, guided by models of socially acceptable behaviour.
  • Enhance the child's self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-confidence by offering many opportunities for a child to succeed, express ideas, and understand his/her emotions and to attain skills to control them.
  • Provide opportunities for math, science, reading, memory skills, language development, and social science.
  • Increase attention span and follow simple directions.
  • Foster creativity and self-expression through art, music, and dramatic play.
  • Develop small muscles by using scissors, paste, clay, blocks, puzzles, beads, pegs, etc.
  • Develop large muscles through outdoor activities such as climbing, riding a tricycle, running, etc.
